Kibbutzim and operations like them operate on a 100% self-sufficiency model for a few thousand people. But the world’s population is so massive that there is no way we can survive without intensive agriculture and urban accommodation and other vehicles for economies of scale. Hence kibbutzim are actually a function of our rich-country ability to donate, as it were, the land and time and so on necessary for them to operate their small-scale self-sufficiency model.
In other words, while kibbutzim and other collective farming operations certainly believe themselves to be experiments in small-scale economies, division of labour, anarcho-nihilism syndicalism, etc., in fact everything they are screams upper-middle class. Not that I care, but you people don’t seem to understand who you are.
