It’s irritating when you click a news site and the first thing they do is pop something up at you about “subscribing” or sharing on Twitter or Facebook the story you haven’t read yet because it’s dramatically shaded out behind an unnecessarily immobile window.
I don’t want my first contact with any site to be a scramble for the X. It’s a negative end-user experience, as those assholes might call it.
But to get a pop-up that tells me that the pop-up isn’t working? You know what? Fuck you.
I also don’t appreciate being forced to go through the Facebook interface just because I made the mistake of clicking on something that looked interesting. Link off-Facebook, assholes. Do you know how inconvenient it is to copy and paste your headline into Google so I can click on the story on your actual site?
Additionally, I hate it when news sites smuggle their link into every single copy ‘n’ paste. Do you really think I’m not going to notice? If I’m going to source you, then I’m going to source you. Being a passive-aggressive douche bag is not meeting me half way on that.
